Apr 21, 2020Posted by in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Rock the Bike’s Response to COVID-19

We’ve reduced the use of our shop by 80% during shelter-in-place. 50% of us are working only from home, and the rest of us have scheduled our use of the shop so we can work one person per room.

We’re following CDC and OSHA guidelines and have never been so tidy.

Procedures and protocols include:

  • washing hands upon arrival and frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • wiping down tools, keyboards, mice, phones and frequently touched surfaces with 70% IPA , before and after shifts
  • encouraging glove use to avoid touching of the face, eyes, etc.
  • practicing 6-foot physical distancing
  • wearing face covers/masks
  • increasing our daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation procedures

We know that you want to plan your future event, but are unsure of when that will be. We’ve updated our event and rental policy in case you need to make any adjustments.

Event and Rental Policy
If the event/rental is being canceled:
25% cancellation fee – with at least 1 week’s notice
50% cancellation fee – with less than a week’s notice
If the event/rental is being rescheduled:

10% rescheduling fee – with less than a week’s notice

Pedal Powered Block Party with Andrew Thierry

Pedal Powered Block Party with Andrew Thierry

What’s up bike people, We’re excited to share one of the best dancing and musical moments from the pedal powered stage since the 2012 highlight performance of Rupa and the April Fishes at the Bicycle Music Festival. Check out the video! Filmed at Montclair Village.

Music lovers dance in the street to the authentic zydeco sounds of Andre Thierry, a Bay Area trio. A 10-bike system was enough to power a block party music stage. A local spin class called CRUfit showed up with 7 strong adult riders ready for a workout. 3 more bikes provided slots for the general public to hop on and help. The sound system used approximately 500W average during the hour-long performance, meaning that the average power required from each pedaler is about 50W. Power is stabilized and stored in the Pedal Power Utility Boxes, though its ultracapacitor is only large enough to provide a 2-3 minute buffer. Pedalers were coached to “keep it in the green” which refers to the level of the ‘Pedalometer’.

Bike Blended Hot Frothy Time!

Now that it’s wintertime, you might not be as excited to sip a cold icy smoothie. So here at Rock the Bike we’ve come up with a few ideas to keep you warm with blended holiday treats!

Morning Drinks:

The first thing that comes to mind when I think warm, blended morning drinks is the bulletproof trend that has become so popular recently on the west coast.

Bullet Proof Peppermint Mocha

  • 2 cups raw whole milk (*or coconut milk or almond milk)
  • 2 cups coffee (strong, freshly brewed )
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon grass-fed butter
  • (optional protein boost) one tbsp of collagen or grass-fed gelatin powder

1.     Add all ingredients into the blendtec or vitamix blender (not recommended for our Oster style pitchers) and blend!!

If coffee too much for you try a bullet proof Matcha Latte, follow the above recipe, replacing the coffee with hot water and replace the cocoa powder with Matcha powder!!

Or try a caffeine-free, anti-inflammatory option with a Golden Milk Chai Frothy!

  • 1 tbsp of turmeric powder
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 12 oz of hot water
  • 4 oz of almond milk
  • Tbsp grass-fed butter or coconut oil
  • Pinch of cinnamon, cardamon, and nutmeg

Blend in your blender and enjoy!!

Oaty Mocha Hot Frothy

This Oaty Mocha Hot Smoothie is one of my favorite hot smoothies.  It’s Comforting, tasty and packed full of nutrients, this HOT smoothie is perfect for those colder months.

  • 15 g (0.5oz – about 4 small chunks) dark chocolate, chopped (check the brand for gluten free if required)
  • 240 ml (1 cup milk) unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 oz shot of espresso or 1 tsp instant coffee granules mixed with 2 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp rolled oats check the brand for gluten free if required
  • ½ a ripe medium sized banana
  • 8 hazelnuts
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp maca powder optional
  • 2 tbsp cold water

Add the dark chocolate to a jug, pour in the milk and the espresso. Microwave until the mixture is warm and the chocolate has melted (you can do this in a pan if you prefer).
Place the oats, banana, hazelnuts, chia seeds, maca powder, the water and approx. a fifth of the milk mixture to your blender. Add in an extra splash of cold water if you think the liquid is too warm (see warning above about hot liquids and smoothie makers).
Blend for a minute until the oats and chia seeds have been completely incorporated.
Whilst it’s blending, further heat the rest of the milk mixture until hot, but not boiling.
Pour the blended oat mix into your cup, stir in the milk/chocolate mix and serve.
