Read MoreWhat’s up bike people, We’re excited to share one of the best dancing and musical moments from the pedal powered stage since the 2012 highlight performance of Rupa and the April Fishes at the Bicycle Music Festival. Check out the video! Filmed at Montclair Village.
Music lovers dance in the street to the authentic zydeco sounds of Andre Thierry, a Bay Area trio. A 10-bike system was enough to power a block party music stage. A local spin class called CRUfit showed up with 7 strong adult riders ready for a workout. 3 more bikes provided slots for the general public to hop on and help. The sound system used approximately 500W average during the hour-long performance, meaning that the average power required from each pedaler is about 50W. Power is stabilized and stored in the Pedal Power Utility Boxes, though its ultracapacitor is only large enough to provide a 2-3 minute buffer. Pedalers were coached to “keep it in the green” which refers to the level of the ‘Pedalometer’.

Now that it’s wintertime, you might not be as excited to sip a cold icy smoothie. So here at Rock the Bike we’ve come up with a few ideas to keep you warm with blended holiday treats!
Morning Drinks:
The first thing that comes to mind when I think warm, blended morning drinks is the bulletproof trend that has become so popular recently on the west coast.
Bullet Proof Peppermint Mocha
1. Add all ingredients into the blendtec or vitamix blender (not recommended for our Oster style pitchers) and blend!!
If coffee too much for you try a bullet proof Matcha Latte, follow the above recipe, replacing the coffee with hot water and replace the cocoa powder with Matcha powder!!
Or try a caffeine-free, anti-inflammatory option with a Golden Milk Chai Frothy!
Blend in your blender and enjoy!!

Oaty Mocha Hot Frothy
This Oaty Mocha Hot Smoothie is one of my favorite hot smoothies. It’s Comforting, tasty and packed full of nutrients, this HOT smoothie is perfect for those colder months.
Add the dark chocolate to a jug, pour in the milk and the espresso. Microwave until the mixture is warm and the chocolate has melted (you can do this in a pan if you prefer).
Place the oats, banana, hazelnuts, chia seeds, maca powder, the water and approx. a fifth of the milk mixture to your blender. Add in an extra splash of cold water if you think the liquid is too warm (see warning above about hot liquids and smoothie makers).
Blend for a minute until the oats and chia seeds have been completely incorporated.
Whilst it’s blending, further heat the rest of the milk mixture until hot, but not boiling.
Pour the blended oat mix into your cup, stir in the milk/chocolate mix and serve.
Whether you have an upcoming full-service event or if you are seeking inspiration for your rented or purchased bike, these are some of our favorite bike-blended smoothie options! If you don’t have fruit that is pre-frozen, and you decide to add ice, you will get the best results with small ice cubes placed on top of the fruit and juice placed into the blender.
